The purpose of the present work is to analyze how companies on the sugar- alcohol sector in the Northeast are internationalizing their production. Six theories were selected to guide the analyses undertaken: Life Cicle, Uppsala, Adaptive Choice, Eclectic Paradigm, Resourcebased View and Diamond Model. The research strategy was the case study and the data was gathered through sectorial documents and semi-structured interviews. The Atlas/ti software aided the data analysis. As a result, evidence was made that there is a strong and decisive presence of location and internal resources aspects, underlined in the Diamond Model, the Eclectic Paradigm and the Resource-based View as fundamental in the internationalization of the activities of companies from Paraiba. The formation of a strong internal network, adopted by the Network Theory, also showed its importance. The other theories under analysis became less applicable, mainly due to the nature of the sugar-ethanol sector in Paraiba, which exports indirectly, and to the fact that their products are highly standardized.Downloads
